WhatsApp’s Fresh Look for Android

A recent report from WABetaInfo reveals that the messaging platform, owned by Meta, is testing a beta update for its Android app, version 2.23.18.18. This update will bring a white top bar instead of the current green one, following Material Design 3 guidelines.

But don’t worry, green won’t disappear entirely. Some UI elements like the WhatsApp logo (with a font change), the ‘Archived icon,’ the ‘new chat’ icon, and a few others will still be green. The new design also introduces a bottom navigation bar, which has been rumored. The aim is to make the WhatsApp design consistent across platforms, as the iOS app already has a bottom navigation bar.

In addition, we might see new filter options at the top of the chat list, like ‘All,’ ‘Read,’ ‘Personal,’ and ‘Business.’ These changes will make it easier to organize your messages and streamline the experience. Similar changes are expected for WhatsApp’s iOS app, aligning the design for both Android and iOS users.

There’s a possibility that these changes will also come to WhatsApp’s Windows and Mac apps, but that’s not confirmed yet. These updates are still in testing, and there’s no official release date.
