Windows 11 Paint Upgrade: Seamless Background Removal
Microsoft’s Paint application within the Windows 11 ecosystem has received a notable enhancement: the introduction of a background removal tool. This latest iteration of the Paint software is currently being distributed exclusively to Windows 11 Insider participants in the Dev and Canary channels.
Upon installation, users will be greeted by a novel addition: the ‘Remove Background’ feature, thoughtfully integrated into the ‘Image’ section of the toolbar. Its functionality is as simple as it is powerful, swiftly isolating the primary subject within an image and eliminating the entire surrounding backdrop with a mere click.
A practical demonstration of this background removal capability can be observed using the Windows wallpaper. Furthermore, users have the flexibility to employ the rectangle select feature, permitting them to define a specific area for background removal, affording them precise control.
In our rigorous evaluations at BleepingComputer, this feature has consistently exhibited remarkable proficiency in extracting the central subject from images, regardless of the complexity of the background, including intricate color gradients. While it’s important to note that this functionality is not entirely novel, as several photo editing applications already offer similar capabilities, it is undeniably beneficial for those seeking a swift background removal solution without the need to install more advanced software.
In a recent development, Microsoft inadvertently released an update for Paint, which contained a conspicuous confidentiality banner. This unintended inclusion has been promptly rectified with the latest update.
The Paint background removal announcement clarifies, “Please take note that an earlier iteration of this update (version 11.2306.28.0) inadvertently displayed a confidentiality banner. The updated version (11.2306.30.0) effectively addresses this issue.”
The new background removal feature is available exclusively in Paint version 11.2306.30.0 and subsequent releases. If it is not currently accessible, we kindly ask for your patience as Microsoft gradually deploys it to all users.
