Windows 11 KB5026446 Update: Moment 3 Installation and Its Detrimental Impact

The installation of Windows 11 KB5026446, encompassing the concealed yet eagerly anticipated features of Windows 11 Moment 3, is resulting in significant complications. First and foremost, Windows Latest has received numerous reports stating that the update installs automatically when users initiate a search for updates.

During my exploration of the update on one of my virtual machines, I observed the trigger for installation when I selected the Check for updates option. However, I promptly paused the update and noticed that it reappeared as an optional update, accompanied by a link to download and install. This prevented the unwanted and unforeseen automatic installation of the optional update.

Users have expressed that the KB5026446 update installs itself without their explicit manual request for updates, a functionality typically reserved for optional updates. Consequently, concerns regarding system stability have arisen, as users did not anticipate the automatic installation of an optional update.

Several users have reported that the update has caused issues with Microsoft Store and Game Pass on Windows 11. There have been claims that Xbox Game Pass games became unplayable after installing KB5026446, and these issues were only resolved after the mandatory optional update was uninstalled.

On the Feedback Hub, multiple users have confirmed that the update hinders the opening of apps and, in the most severe instances, freezes the system. One user disclosed significant issues with their device after entering sleep mode following the update. Their computer failed to restart, fan control became unresponsive, and overall PC performance suffered.

These problems were exclusively rectified upon uninstalling the troublesome update.

Following the installation of the aforementioned update, the computer encountered an incapacitating issue when it entered sleep mode. The screen remained unresponsive, accompanied by a flashing red light next to the camera, after which the computer abruptly rebooted, described a user concerning their problem post-update installation.

One of the affected users noted that fan control was rendered inoperable. The laptop’s fans ramped up to maximum speed, and attempts to adjust the speed proved futile, both via the performance toggle key and ASUS apps offering such functionality.

We have received reports indicating that certain devices have encountered hardware malfunctions, such as the keyboard and mouse becoming unresponsive. Additionally, external keyboards disconnect spontaneously. Microsoft has expressed interest in obtaining more detailed information from users in order to investigate this issue further.
