These were the most sought-after flagship smartphones in the first quarter of the year. The mobile phone industry is currently experiencing a decline in overall shipments, displaying a substantial decrease compared to the same period last year. However, it appears that the premium phone sector (valued at $500 or higher) has defied this trend.
Canalys, a trucking company, has divulged that the high-end category experienced a growth rate of 4.7% in comparison to the previous year. Additionally, the company has provided a comprehensive list of the top 15 most favored high-end smartphones based on sell-in figures (sales to retailers).
Unsurprisingly, Apple’s iPhones occupied the leading positions, with the iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14, and iPhone 13 ranking first, second, third, and fourth, respectively. Furthermore, Apple’s contributions were completed by the iPhone 14 Plus (sixth) and iPhone 12 (eighth).
Samsung also made a significant impact in this segment, accounting for six devices. Particularly noteworthy was the Galaxy S23 Ultra, securing the fifth position and surpassing the iPhone 14 Plus. Another notable entry was the Galaxy Z Flip 4, claiming the tenth spot as the sole foldable device on the list. The Galaxy S23 (seventh), Galaxy S23 Plus (ninth), Galaxy S22 (12th), and Galaxy S21 FE (15th) also made it to the top 15.
Lastly, the Xiaomi 13 (13th) and HUAWEI Mate 50 (14th) were the sole non-Apple or Samsung phones included in this compilation of premier flagship smartphones.
It is worth mentioning that Samsung can draw some encouragement from the fact that it outperformed an iPhone 14 model (albeit the iPhone 14 Plus). However, it is believed that the Korean company is preparing for a challenging second quarter and intends to organize an earlier Unpacked launch to ensure a robust performance in the third quarter.
