Spotify is presently conducting official tests on an offline mix.

The music streaming company, Spotify, has at last commenced official trials for a curated playlist that automatically downloads a selection of your most recent favorites. This endeavor has been in progress for a couple of years, and the CEO of the company, Daniel Ek, mentioned it in a tweet without divulging any specific details. Unfortunately, the release date for this feature remains unclear.

According to Ek’s tweet, titled Your Offline Mix, it is designed to cater to situations when you find yourself offline, such as during a flight. The playlists, as depicted in the accompanying screenshot, can store multiple hours’ worth of music. This becomes particularly useful for instances when you forget to download music in advance. It is worth noting that Spotify already allows users to download playlists for offline listening.

Tweets from some users suggest that this feature has already appeared in their applications, but it remains uncertain in which regions Spotify is rolling out the offline mix. Furthermore, there is uncertainty regarding whether this feature will be available to free users. We have reached out to Spotify for a comment and will update the story accordingly.

One tweet from a user mentions that Spotify provided them with an offline mix, but approximately 90% of the songs were not downloaded by the user.

Another tweet showcases the new Spotify offline mix feature.

Back in 2020, a reverse engineer named Jane Manchun Wong discovered that Spotify was developing an offline mix feature. However, it was never released. With Ek’s recent confirmation, users can expect this feature to be made available in the future.

Spotify’s rival, YouTube Music, already offers an Offline mixtape feature. Moreover, this service, owned by Google, can automatically download up to 500 songs from different playlists when users activate the Smart download functionality.

According to data from the latest earnings call, Spotify currently boasts a user base exceeding 500 million individuals.
