Google’s Delay Impacts on Samsung’s Android 14 Release Plans
The potential for a delay instigated by Google may compel Samsung to defer the launch of the stable Android 14 iteration. Google has evidently chosen to defer the introduction of the stable Android 14 update. Following several Developer Preview unveilings and a quintet of Public Beta enhancements for Android 14, the anticipation for the stable Android 14 release was mounting. Alas, it now stands deferred, thereby necessitating smartphone manufacturers to recalibrate their schedules.
Google has officially rescheduled the release of the stable Android 14 update to early October 2023, as disclosed by Mishaal Rahman. Today, the release of the Android 14 source code was eagerly anticipated, but Google has surprised everyone with the announcement of multiple Feature Drop enhancements that will be extended to all Android smartphones. The stable iteration of Android 14 is slated for release on October 4, 2023, which coincides with Google’s prestigious Made By Google event. During this event, the company will unveil the much-anticipated Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel Watch 2.
If this information holds true, it would signify a remarkable synchrony where Google aligns the release of a fresh Android version with the launch of new Pixel smartphones. Reportedly, Google has conveyed to Android Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), including Samsung, that Security Release Notes pertaining to Android 14 will remain undisclosed until October 4.
Samsung has already rolled out two beta updates for One UI 6.0 based on Android 14. A potential postponement by Google could potentially force Samsung to revise its plans for releasing the stable version of One UI 6.0 for compatible smartphones. Similarly, other OEMs may find themselves obliged to defer their intended release dates. For instance, OnePlus had previously announced its intention to unveil the stable OxygenOS 14 update on September 25, but the company might find itself constrained to reschedule the launch.
