Expectations for Apple’s September Event: iPhone 15 Pro Max
Anticipating Apple’s Event: The Anticipated Revelation
With the ink of permanence, the Apple September Event finds its place on calendars. Scheduled for the illustrious September 12, the forthcoming grand launch of Apple’s pioneering products at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino stirs our contemplation.
Among the imminent unveilings, the new iPhone 15 stands prominent, accompanied by the highly anticipated Apple Watch 9. Yet, the most intriguing anticipation lies in the revelation destined to conclude the event—an unveiling that promises to resonate in conversations long after the event’s conclusion.
Indeed, this spot is none other than the “One More Thing” slot.
Devotees of Apple’s evolution are well-acquainted with the “One More Thing” tradition, a hallmark of Steve Jobs’ legacy. This unique tradition involved unveiling a surprise product at the event’s finale—an addition that often eclipsed the rest of the showcase. Previous instances of this include the inaugural MacBook Air, the original Apple Watch, and the iPhone X.
Recent events have indicated the continuation of the “One More Thing” tradition under Tim Cook’s leadership. Notably, the Apple Vision Pro headset took center stage at WWDC 2023, capturing attention and admiration. While not every occasion warrants a “One More Thing” reveal, Apple selectively employs this tactic to highlight novel products or shifts in the corporate trajectory. As the September 12 event approaches, the possibility of such a revelation looms tantalizingly.
What Awaits Us on September 12?
The impending Apple event promises a cascade of product introductions. Naturally, the spotlight will grace the iPhone 15, accompanied by an obligatory focus on the more advanced iPhone 15 Pro, which is poised to showcase remarkable enhancements. Additionally, a new series of Apple Watches is expected—a confirmed Apple Watch 9 and the potential debut of the Apple Watch Ultra 2.
Possibly, Apple might introduce other innovations, such as the rumored iPad Mini 7 with its prospective processor upgrade. However, this development seems to lack the distinction required for the “One More Thing” status.
Within my estimation, two prospects emerge as fitting contenders for such distinction, though I am hesitant to expect their readiness for a fall launch event. The Apple Vision Pro received its spotlight earlier this year at the Worldwide Developers Conference, with indications that this spatial computing marvel—referred to as a “headset”—will not grace the market until 2024.
Foreseeably, the Apple Vision Pro could grace the September 12 event, potentially through application demonstrations. Yet, reports regarding developers’ experiences with the device hint at an unpreparedness for live product demonstrations. Nonetheless, this event could provide an opportunity for a status update and teaser regarding the capabilities of this mixed reality headset.
The Prelude to iPhone 15 Ultra
Should Apple grace us with a “One More Thing” announcement in September, I foresee this revelation being an evolution of an existing product, mirroring the strategy employed with the iPhone X in 2017. Such an announcement would emphasize Apple’s profound transformation of a familiar entity, underscoring that it is more than an incremental upgrade.
In my perspective, Apple’s “One More Thing” reveal will center around the iPhone 15 Ultra, also known as the rebadged iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Whispers of an Ultra variant surfaced early in the year, envisioning a superior smartphone analogous to last year’s Apple Watch Ultra. Although these speculations waned with time, recent weeks have reignited discussions about the iPhone 15 Pro Max adopting the “Ultra” moniker.
This shift holds logical appeal. The iPhone 15 Pro Max seeks to transcend the already advanced iPhone 15 Pro. While the distinctions between earlier iterations primarily encompassed screen and battery sizes, indications suggest a more pronounced disparity between the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro. This is substantiated by rumors of a novel periscope-style telephoto lens exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max—a lens tailored for enhanced zoom photography.
Persistent rumors also hint at a price hike for the iPhone 15 Pro Max—potentially amounting to $100 or more. Justifying this elevated cost requires substantial justification, and Apple might utilize the September 12 event to articulate the value proposition of the iPhone 15 Pro Max/iPhone 15 Ultra.
I have postulated that if Apple genuinely intends to redefine its premier smartphone’s nomenclature, it must expound upon the distinctiveness of the iPhone 15 Ultra in contrast to the Pro Max model. This elucidation should encompass more than an enhanced zoom lens. Allocating the coveted final segment of the September 12 event to the iPhone 15 Ultra would offer Apple the opportunity to meticulously elaborate on this transformation.
Outlook for the iPhone 15 Ultra
The forthcoming Apple event stands as a significant affair, regardless of the presence of a “One More Thing” revelation. However, ushering in a new era for Apple’s pinnacle smartphone unquestionably reaches the echelons of an announcement capable of capturing the attention even of former Apple CEOs.
