Apple New Music App

Apple has launched a standalone Apple Music Classical app, and the company has now published a support document explaining why it released it. Apple says the app was created to support the complex metadata structure of classical music. Apple’s support document states that “classical music is different. It has longer and more detailed titles, multiple artists for each work, and hundreds of recordings of well-known pieces.” Apple Music Classical offers over five million classical music tracks and is free to use with a standard Apple Music subscription on iOS 15.4 and later.

According to Apple, a distinct app, included with an Apple Music subscription, gives classical music lovers the editorial and catalog content they have been missing. Until now, classical music fans have been ill-served by streaming platforms. A specialized app with unique features and a beautiful interface designed for the genre can remove the complexity and make classical music easily searchable, browsable, and accessible for beginners and experts alike.

Apple Music Classical Launch:

Apple Music Classical is based on Primephonic, a classical music streaming service that Apple acquired in 2021. The app is only available on iPhone at launch, with an Android version coming soon. Much of the information in the support document relates to how the Apple Music Classical app integrates with the standard Apple Music app.

Features of Apple Music Classical:

The app offers the ability to browse new releases and curated playlists. Users can also search for composers, performers, albums, and individual tracks. The app features exclusive playlists and interviews with performers and composers. Classical music fans can also access detailed music notes, and they can stream recordings in lossless audio quality.

The release of the Apple Music Classical app signals Apple’s commitment to supporting the classical music community. By providing a specialized app that supports classical music’s complex metadata structure, Apple is hoping to create a dedicated space for classical music lovers to enjoy and discover new music. The app is just the latest example of Apple’s push to expand its music offerings beyond the standard Apple Music app.
