Microsoft and AI music startup Suno today unveiled a new collaboration that would enable Copilot users to quickly compose songs in response to any text query.
With just a sentence or two of text, the integration may create entire musical compositions with lyrics, instruments, and singers because to Suno’s technology. The collaboration takes place in the midst of a wave of AI tools for mass-produced music being released by major tech companies. For instance, MusicFX, an experimental composition tool with protections against artist style piracy, was just released by Google. Similar criticism was levelled at DeepMind’s Lyria project prior to its release regarding voice mimicking features. ByteDance, the creator of TikToks, has also created an AI system named SALMONN to improve audio comprehension.
Democratising music and bringing up moral issues
Suno takes short text descriptions and uses a proprietary AI algorithm to construct whole musical compositions including lyrics, instruments, and singers. Although the system democratises the process of creating music, it also brings up issues of creativity, copyright infringement, and unfair rivalry with human musicians.

Microsoft promises responsible development through public feedback, suggesting that it is aware of ethical pitfalls. The preview release of Copilot is similar to Google’s trial strategy for MusicFX. Still lacking, though, are specifics regarding how Microsoft plans to handle each problem.
