Nintendo often adds new vintage titles to its Nintendo Switch Online classic collection. If you’re a subscriber, you’ll have access to all of these games as soon as they’re launched, however, certain titles won’t be available until you upgrade to the Expansion Pack subscriber level, which costs extra. To commemorate Halloween, Nintendo unveiled three new titles for the lowest tier today. One original Game Boy game and two NES titles are included in the most recent Nintendo Switch Online release. While they aren’t as gory as recent creepy games, they definitely have a Halloween flavor to them. Let’s take a look at all three games in the gallery below.
Castlevania Legends – Game Boy Advance
“In this 1998 Game Boy release, you play as Sonia Belmont, a young Vampire Hunter who takes the whip her grandfather taught her to use and heads to the castle where Dracula awaits.” By defeating bosses, you can get Soul Weapons and use them to advance farther within the castle. Activate Burning Mode to become briefly invincible once per level, which can come in handy if you find yourself in a tight spot!”
Murasame Castle: The Mysterious Castle – NES
“A mysterious force has begun to seize control of Murasame Castle and its surrounding lands.” Each ruler in four nearby castles has seized a dark orb of power, allowing them to conjure ninja armies and creatures that terrorize the peasants. Takamaru, a courageous samurai swordsman, has been dispatched to look into the matter. Before reaching Murasame Castle, he must infiltrate all four castles and fight the lords. Uncover the hidden wellspring of evil with sword and shuriken assaults!”
NES Devil World
“You control the heroic dragon Tamagon, who must defeat evil by navigating a maze filled with various challenges, such as collecting boa-boa dots and destroying enemies with fire breath.” But keep an eye out for the devil at the top of the screen! He’ll tell his minions to move the maze in random ways in the hopes of trapping Tamagon within its walls.”
Devil World may be the most intriguing of the three games. This is the first time the early Famicom game has been released in the United States. It’s also Shigeru Miyamoto’s first console-only game after focusing on arcade titles for so long. Meanwhile, Murasame Castle was previously accessible on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in 2014, but it’s always nice to have another chance for fans to check out one of Suda51’s early titles. Finally, Castlevania Legends received mixed reviews due to the Game Boy’s restrictions, but it has since become a cult favorite. It now has a second chance at life as part of the Nintendo Switch Online roster.
