Bloomberg reports that “people with knowledge of the matter” provided this information. According to the source, Bungie Chief Executive Officer Pete Parsons sent an email to the studio’s employees informing them that they would be “hearing some news today” and that a team meeting would follow. Parsons has since verified this, calling it a “sad day” for the company:
Today is a difficult day at Bungie because we are saying farewell to colleagues who have all had a big impact on our studio. What these extraordinary individuals have given to our games and Bungie culture has been immense, and they will be a part of Bungie for a long time to come. — Pete Parsons (@pparsons) 30 Oct 2023
Bungie has pushed out their next Destiny 2 addition, The Final Shape, which will no longer be released in the current fiscal year, and its resurrection of the Marathon series, which will purportedly be an extraction shooter, to 2025.
Bungie was acquired by Sony last February for $3.6 billion, and at the time, Bungie stated that the potential for its universes with Sony Interactive Entertainment was “unlimited.” PlayStation has lately said farewell to a number of significant figures, including CEO Jim Ryan and veteran Connie Booth.
