Sony’s Xperia 5 V: DSLR-like Imaging & Dual Cameras Unveiled
Sony is generating anticipation for the Xperia 5 V, a smartphone set to be officially unveiled later this week. Scheduled for release on September 1, the Xperia 5 V is poised to deliver photography on par with DSLR quality, despite being equipped with only two rear-facing cameras.
Numerous insights regarding the Xperia 5 V have emerged online in the lead-up to its official launch. Some of these insights were provided by Sony last week through a teaser video. Presently, the Xperia 5 V is expected to showcase two rear-facing cameras, a noticeable shift from the Xperia 5 IV and its triple 12 MP configuration, which encompassed focal lengths of 16 mm, 24 mm, and 60 mm respectively. Notably, Sony’s recent Xperia teaser implies that the company intends to compensate for the absence of a dedicated telephoto sensor in this year’s Xperia 5 through software enhancements.
As evidenced in the screenshot below, Sony employs the hashtag #3in2 in its Xperia teasers, although without supplying an accompanying explanation. It appears that Sony is hinting at the presence of a virtual third camera within the Xperia 5 V, likely achieved through cropping the output of its primary camera. Essentially, the Xperia 5 V will follow a similar approach to the Google Pixel 7, which notably lacks a dedicated telephoto camera.
In all likelihood, this also signifies that Sony has outfitted the Xperia 5 V with a higher megapixel sensor compared to its predecessor. While specific details remain undisclosed at this juncture, it would not be surprising if Sony employs a sensor similar to the 48 MP variant featured in the Xperia 1 V. While there is no guarantee that the Xperia 5 V will match the photographic capabilities of its larger counterpart, Sony tantalizingly suggests that the former is capable of capturing shots that parallel those taken by a professional photographer using a DSLR camera. In any case, Sony is poised to unveil comprehensive details about the Xperia 5 V on September 1, encompassing aspects such as pricing and availability.
