iPhone enthusiasts will soon find themselves adapting to this nuanced yet impactful alteration.
Prepare your digit for the upcoming month. Apple (AAPL) is effecting a subtle modification to the iPhone’s software, one that is likely to disrupt your ingrained motor memory: The conspicuous scarlet “terminate call” button is undergoing relocation.
The phone application on the iPhone will be subject to a series of enhancements accompanying the advent of iOS 17, encompassing a refined aesthetic that relocates the hang-up button to the lower right corner of the display, adjacent to its fellow functions. The button currently occupies an isolated space at the lower center of the phone application, beneath the controls for muting, keypad access, or adding another call.
The fresh call interface, already accessible for trial in a developer’s beta edition, has ignited robust reactions among iOS users across social media platforms: One user tweeted, “iOS 17 features the FaceTime control in the former location of the end call button. Muscle memory, alas, falls prey.”
This alteration aims to harmonize the appearance of the phone application while consolidating all functions within a singular location. Apple, however, refrained from responding to a request for commentary.
During its annual Worldwide Developer Conference in May, the corporation showcased an array of novel utilities making their debut in iOS 17, intensifying the personalized and bespoke nature of call and messaging activities. For instance, iPhone aficionados will gain the capability to craft distinctive “posters” for contacts, constituting bespoke imagery to manifest when making or receiving calls.
Simultaneously, an innovative attribute christened Live Voicemail will transcribe a caller’s verbal message in real-time, empowering users to decide whether to dismiss or accept the incoming call. Another tool christened NameDrop will facilitate the exchange of contact information between users by merely juxtaposing two iPhones. Moreover, FaceTime will embrace the ability to record video messages for instances when a real-time conversation is unattainable.
Additional transformations slated for iOS 17 encompass heightened accuracy in autocorrection, enhanced dictation within iMessage, and a more prompt and responsive Siri. As per tradition, Apple is poised to introduce its latest mobile operating system in September, following its annual iPhone event.
