WhatsApp is presently developing a captivating innovation – 32-person voice conversations.
As disclosed in the beta notes shared by WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp, 2.23.16.19, introduces a novel voice chat functionality that enables groups of up to 32 individuals to engage in spoken interactions. This innovation brings WhatsApp in line with similar features found in Telegram and Discord chats, Slack’s Huddles, and even Meta’s own Messenger platform.
To verify if this feature is accessible in your app version, watch for the appearance of a waveform icon within your group chats. However, please note that the feature will only be available if your WhatsApp account is enabled for it and if the group is compatible with it. By tapping the designated button, you can initiate the voice chat, and a seamless interface will guide your conversation. Up to 32 participants can join the discussion effortlessly. Unlike conventional group calls that trigger everyone’s phone to ring, group voice chats operate more discreetly.
Additionally, when all participants depart, the session will persist for an hour before automatically concluding. Rest assured, the voice chats in WhatsApp boast end-to-end encryption, just like its other messages, ensuring your communication remains private and secure.
Moreover, it is worth mentioning that the new WhatsApp voice chat feature may appear in non-beta installations as well, as WABetaInfo suggests a broader release. While this feature isn’t an early revelation for Meta, as Telegram introduced voice chat capabilities in 2020, WhatsApp enjoys an advantage due to its immense popularity with over 2 billion users worldwide.
