WhatsApp’s Beta Version Empowers Testers to Experience Novel Voice Chats and the ‘Send for Admin Review’ Functionality
The latest update of WhatsApp beta, the experimental edition of the widely-used messaging application, introduces a fresh feature. Formerly known as audio chats, this functionality allows users to initiate voice calls within a group. Additionally, the recent beta update includes support for sending messages to group administrators for review, a feature designed to enhance group administration on the platform. These enhancements are expected to become available to all users on the stable channel in due course.
Group Voice Chat Feature
With the update to WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.16.19, select beta testers will gain access to a feature called voice chats, as discovered by WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo. This feature revolutionizes group audio calls by replacing the call icon with a mesmerizing waveform icon. By tapping this icon, users can initiate a voice chat that other group members may also join. Unlike group voice calls, these voice chats won’t trigger your phone to ring; instead, all group members will receive a push notification.
The feature tracker has generously shared a couple of screenshots, showcasing the functionality in action within a group. Once a voice chat is initiated, group members can join and engage in conversations, simulating a regular audio call. Idle calls will be automatically terminated after an hour, according to WABetaInfo. It appears that WhatsApp’s existing limitations on calls will also apply to voice chats, allowing only up to 32 members to participate simultaneously.
Send for Admin Review
On the other hand, WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.16.18, which was released over the weekend, reportedly introduces a new feature designed to bolster group moderation. WhatsApp has introduced a new toggle in the group settings section called “Send for Admin Review,” empowering group members to submit messages to a group’s administrator for review.
While users currently have the ability to report messages sent by other users to WhatsApp, the messaging service has recently granted group administrators the ability to delete messages to enhance moderation on the app. Once this new feature is activated, users will have the opportunity to report specific messages sent to the group, allowing administrators to promptly remove inappropriate content, as suggested by WABetaInfo. This feature could prove invaluable for administrators who might miss certain messages when they are away from their phone.
Features Rollout Status
As of now, there is no official announcement from WhatsApp regarding the universal rollout of these features to all users on the app. Gadgets 360 has been unable to confirm the presence of both these features after updating to the latest version of the app. This implies that they might be enabled through a server-side update, and users who install the latest beta version might gain access to the feature in the near future.
