TCL 40 NXTPAPER: Elevating Mobile Display with NXTPAPER Tech
The TCL 40 NXTPAPER represents the retail version of the innovative concept phone initially showcased at CES. TCL is a pioneer in display technology and boasts the impressive NXTPAPER innovation. This technology is featured in selected tablets and laptops, giving the screen a tactile resemblance to paper. Additionally, it gently reduces the overall visual impact, similar to the subtlety of paper, ensuring comfortable extended viewing. If you’re familiar with the Kindle Paperwhite, you can get an approximate idea of what this innovation offers, albeit in full color.
During the captivating CES 2023 event, TCL introduced a visionary smartphone seamlessly integrated with this remarkable technology. We were genuinely excited about this unveiling (check out the attached video). At this juncture, TCL is launching the TCL 40 NXTPAPER and TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G, marking the debut of commercial smartphones featuring the groundbreaking NXTPAPER display technology.
Unfortunately, if you’re expecting flagship-level performance from these devices, you might be disappointed. The TCL 40-series devices cater more to the budget segment, a trend that continues with these two phones. However, the exceptional display provides a unique feature that stands out among the sea of ordinary budget alternatives.
Considering the TCL 40 NXTPAPER series: Exploring 4G vs. 5G
As usual, the 4G and 5G iterations of the new NXTPAPER smartphones differ significantly. A quick look at the image above confirms this distinction, as they have distinct appearances.
The 4G model boasts a 6.78-inch FHD+ display with a refresh rate of 90Hz, along with a notch housing a 32MP front camera. On the back, there’s a trio of lenses: a 50MP primary lens, a 5MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro sensor. It offers 256GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM. The device is powered by the MediaTek Helio G88 (MT6769). Powering everything is a substantial 5,010mAh battery, with the convenience of 33W wired charging for quick top-ups.
In contrast, the 5G variant features a 6.6-inch HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a waterdrop notch, housing an 8MP selfie camera. On the rear, the camera setup includes a 50MP primary lens, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. It comes with 256GB of internal storage and 6GB of RAM. The MediaTek Dimensity 6020 (MT6833) manages the device. When the 5,000mAh battery’s charge runs low, a 15W charger can replenish it.
Undoubtedly, the key attraction of these phones is the NXTPAPER technology. Coupled with their affordable prices, these phones are well-suited as compact e-readers.
