Samsung Galaxy S23 Dominates Sales Despite Smartphone Slump
In the last quarter of 2022, smartphone sales saw a significant decline, with Samsung experiencing a 16% drop in phone shipments compared to the previous year. The economic downturn is expected to further affect sales in Q1 2023. Despite this, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 pre-orders had a successful start, recording double-digit growth in major markets. Two months after its launch, the Galaxy S23 is reportedly outselling its predecessor, the Galaxy S22, by a considerable margin.
Latin America Leads Sales:
According to Yonhap, the Galaxy S23 is selling 1.7x more than the Galaxy S22 in Brazil, Mexico, and other Latin American countries, despite launching a week later. In Europe, the Galaxy S23 lineup is outselling the S22 by 1.5x, even with its higher price tag. The popularity of the Galaxy S23 Ultra and its smaller siblings can be attributed to Samsung launching the phone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip in Europe, unlike its previous Exynos chip that caused performance issues.
Strong Sales in India and the Middle East:
In India and the Middle East, the sales volume is 1.5x and 1.4x higher, respectively. Samsung has also sold over 1 million Galaxy S23 units in South Korea, its home market, at about the same time as the S22 series. Samsung has shared these numbers with the Korean media, even revealing that the Ultra accounts for 60% of sales, while the Galaxy S23+ and Baby S22 account for 20% each.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra’s impressive camera array, which includes a 200MP primary camera, all-day battery life, and a massive 6.8-inch QHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display, makes it a top pick on the list of the best Android phones to buy.
