MSI Unveils the Sleek and Streamlined MSI GeForce RTX 4090 & RTX 4080 Gaming SLIM Graphics Cards, Shedding Excess Bulk and Dimensions

MSI, in a remarkable feat of engineering, has introduced its flagship GeForce RTX 4090 & RTX 4080 Gaming SLIM series, ushering in a new era of elegance by reducing the card’s overall profile from four slots to a svelte three slots.

In a prior unveiling, MSI presented its “GAMING SLIM” GeForce RTX 40 GPUs, an impressive collection of twenty unique models. The company had initially showcased mid-range graphic cards within this exceptional series. Now, MSI has taken the wraps off its flagship GeForce RTX 4090 & RTX 4080 Gaming SLIM lineup.

The MSI GeForce RTX 4090 & RTX 4080 GAMING SLIM GPU range is designed with a specific focus on providing consumers with the opportunity to harness the immense power of Ada Lovelace GPUs without being encumbered by their substantial size. This is particularly significant in a time when the prevailing trend in the industry leans toward bulkier GPUs (for instance, Maxsun’s recent RTX 4090).

Delving into the technical specifications, the MSI GeForce RTX 4090 GAMING SLIM boasts a slim 62mm thickness, marking a notable reduction of nearly 20 percent compared to the original GAMING X TRIO variant. Additionally, this GPU exhibits a decrease in weight, tipping the scales at a mere 1.78 kilograms. This reduction in weight is a boon for builders and addresses the issue of “GPU sag” commonly experienced with standard GeForce RTX 4090 variants.

MSI has yet to divulge the intricacies of the weight reduction process. However, based on press release images, it appears that the company has made modifications to the backplate of the GAMING SLIM GPUs, possibly incorporating additional cutouts along the GPU chassis and I/O port. It remains to be seen how these changes will impact real-time performance, especially concerning thermal management, as MSI asserts that these alterations will not affect GPU temperatures.

It’s important to note that the MSI GeForce RTX 4090 & RTX 4080 GAMING SLIM GPUs are by no means underpowered or inferior. While minor clock adjustments are present in the GeForce RTX 4070 variants, these GPUs maintain the high-performance standards expected from MSI. Pricing details for the GeForce RTX 4090 GAMING SLIM have yet to be disclosed, but they are expected to be close to their non-SLIM counterparts. The RTX 4080 GAMING SLIM will also be available in a pristine white color variant, with the possibility of a later release for the RTX 4090 Gaming SLIM White edition.
