Google Chat’s forthcoming update aims to augment the organization of conversations.

Google Chat, the successor to Google Hangouts, is set to receive an update that endeavors to enhance the organization of conversations. In a recent declaration on the Workspace blog, Google disclosed that dormant chats and Spaces will be concealed from sight on the left-hand side of the screen. This alteration will exclusively apply to direct messages and Spaces that have remained inactive for a duration of one week. However, users will still retain the capability to access these threads by tapping the More button.

This update will be triggered when there are more than 10 ongoing conversations or Spaces. If a user possesses fewer than 10 chats or Spaces, they might not even take notice of the feature’s introduction. Pinned conversations will remain unaffected by this modification, thereby ensuring easy accessibility to significant chats. The objective is to furnish users with a streamlined and uncluttered view of conversations, enabling them to concentrate on the most pertinent exchanges. The improved view of conversations will be gradually implemented over the ensuing weeks for all Workspace and personal Google account holders. As per Google’s statement, there will be no toggles to activate or deactivate this feature, implying that it will be accessible to all users upon completion of the rollout, anticipated to be by mid-June.

Google Chat has been endeavoring to establish its distinct identity, diverging from its initial resemblances to Slack. In October, Google introduced the capability to fashion customized emoji, a highly favored attribute from Slack. Earlier this year, the Google Chat team also simplified the procedure of initiating new group chats.

All in all, this update to Google Chat centers around amplifying the organization of conversations by concealing inactive chats and Spaces, thereby furnishing users with a neater and more focused interface.
