Square Enix plans to adopt an ‘assertive’ AI strategy by 2024.
Publisher Square Enix has recently unveiled their plans for the future, revealing a new direction for the company in 2024. They have expressed their commitment to exploring the latest emerging technologies on the market. President Takashi Kiryu started the new year with strong instructions, stating that the company will be “proactive in utilizing AI and other advanced technologies in both our content development and publishing operations.”
Kiryu did not provide a specific timeframe but mentioned that the immediate objective is to improve development efficiency and increase marketing strategies using the technology. Therefore, it would be advisable to carefully observe Cloud’s fingers in the upcoming official Final Fantasy VII Rebirth artwork. In the past, Square Enix has made significant investments in blockchain entertainment, Web 3.0, and cloud technology.
On a longer timescale, things can potentially become more concerning, as Kiryu (possibly drawing inspiration from Rufus Shinra) explains the plan: To utilize those technologies to generate fresh types of content for consumers, as we perceive technological advancement as business prospects.
It is not unexpected, and 2024 is set to be the year when AI gains momentum in gaming. The recent unexpected success of The Finals initially caught attention when it was announced that the controversial technology would be used instead of hiring voice actors, but that position surely didn’t prevent the game from attracting a large audience.
