    Embracing the A.I. Revolution

Nvidia’s Chief Executive Officer, Jensen Huang, expresses that the year 2023 represents an opportune moment for graduation due to advancements in artificial intelligence (A.I.).

The significance of timing cannot be overstated. In a recent address to the graduating class, Jensen Huang, the esteemed CEO of Nvidia, emphasized that these graduates are embarking upon their professional journeys during an exceptional era, thanks to the vast prospects presented by artificial intelligence.

In a remarkable turn of events, Nvidia’s market capitalization has soared to nearly $1 trillion, surpassing industry giants such as Meta, Tesla, and Berkshire Hathaway. This unprecedented achievement follows the California-based chipmaker’s robust performance, as it reported a quarter that surpassed expectations and projected sales of $11 billion for the upcoming quarter, a staggering 50% higher than analysts’ predictions. Huang alluded to the extraordinary demand for remarkable orders as data centers aspire to become proficient in the realm of artificial intelligence.

Speaking at the commencement ceremony of National Taiwan University in Taipei on Saturday, Huang revealed that he himself had experienced the advantages of serendipitous timing. Having spent part of his formative years in Taiwan, he completed his studies at Oregon State University in 1984, coinciding with the advent of the Apple Macintosh, which sparked a revolution in personal computing.

Reflecting on the year of his graduation, he deemed 1984 to be an idyllic time for embarking on a professional journey and boldly prophesied that 2023 would offer similar prospects. Huang expounded upon this, asserting that graduates of this year will enter the workforce during a period in which artificial intelligence has reinvented the very foundations of computing. In every sense, this signifies the rebirth of the computer industry.

The billionaire CEO passionately expounded upon the immense opportunities that artificial intelligence has unleashed. He stressed the importance of agile companies capitalizing on A.I. and fortifying their positions, while cautioning that firms that fail to embrace this transformative technology will inevitably perish. Huang implored the graduates to seize the potential of A.I., emphasizing the remarkable achievements that can be accomplished with an A.I. co-pilot by their side.

Furthermore, he predicted that A.I. would engender new vocations that were previously nonexistent, such as prompt engineering, A.I. factory operations, and A.I. safety engineers. Acknowledging that certain roles might succumb to automation, he highlighted the irony that individuals often fear losing their jobs to A.I., when in reality, they may find themselves being outperformed by individuals who have become experts in utilizing A.I.

In an earnest plea, Huang urged the graduates to possess the humility to confront failure and admit their mistakes, as this would be instrumental in their journey towards success. He candidly shared his own experiences of humiliating and embarrassing failures during Nvidia’s nascent stages. For instance, at one point, Nvidia realized that their technically poor architecture was an erroneous strategy, despite having already secured a contract with Sega to develop a new gaming console based on said architecture.

Confronted with a dilemma, Huang found himself in the uncomfortable position of needing Sega’s full payment to avoid Nvidia’s potential downfall. Although embarrassed to request such assistance, he was astounded when Sega’s CEO acquiesced, granting Nvidia a six-month lifeline.

Through sheer determination, Nvidia managed to not only survive but also flourish, establishing itself as a pivotal player in the gaming industry and, subsequently, the field of artificial intelligence.

With the advent of the A.I. era, Huang passionately urged the graduates to pursue this transformative technology with fervor, much like Nvidia did. His parting words resounded with conviction as he implored them to run after it like we did. Run, don’t
