ASUS unveils the world’s fastest RTX 4090

During a dedicated event, ASUS announced today the unveiling of the first ROG Matrix since the RTX 2080 Ti series. The company has introduced a novel graphics card that showcases an All-in-One cooling solution, featuring a substantial 360mm radiator and three ROG MF-12S ARGB fans. ASUS claims that this arrangement effectively maintains the card’s temperature below the targeted 60°C, even at a demanding 450W TGP.

ASUS’ groundbreaking Matrix graphics card will be among the pioneering models to incorporate liquid metal on the die, a particularly intricate undertaking for a GPU. The company asserts that their meticulously engineered coldplate safeguards the GPU, memory, and VRM section, ensuring that no liquid metal spillage occurs. Remarkably, ASUS has developed a secure technique for its application, even when the card is installed vertically. Notably, liquid metal is a familiar component to ASUS, as it is employed as a thermal compound in all their gaming ROG laptops today.

The radiator remains cable-free, thanks to the implementation of magnetic connectors for the fans, facilitating easier cable management. Although a cable is still required for color synchronization and powering the fans and radiator, ASUS assures that this cable is concealed within one of the cooling tubes. Consequently, ASUS has effectively addressed one of the primary design flaws encountered with AIO coolers in graphics cards.

According to ASUS, the release of this graphics card is scheduled for the next quarter, offering a collector’s edition with an approximate price point of $2000.

However, one significant challenge lies in its electrical conductivity. Improper application runs the risk of direct contact with exposed components, potentially leading to a short circuit. Nonetheless, drawing from years of expertise with liquid metal in the realm of ROG laptops, we have devised a patented production process that harnesses the power of liquid metal safely, even when the GPU is mounted vertically.

By employing a UV resin above the surface-mounted capacitors bordering the GPU die, and introducing two additional protective layers between the die and the main PCB, we have ensured that the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 capitalizes on the remarkable thermal transfer properties intrinsic to liquid metal, without any leakage concerns.

Liquid metal possesses a touch of magic, yet it represents only one element in the comprehensive solution employed by the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 to maintain optimal temperatures and minimize noise levels. This solution features a customized, extra-thick 360mm radiator, accompanied by a trio of ROG MF-12S ARGB fans. These fans effortlessly connect via magnetic connectors, effectively linking them and facilitating control signal transmission and power supply. The installation process and cable management become seamless, requiring just a single cable for all three fans, resulting in effortlessly synchronized ARGB lighting effects. Equipped with high-static pressure and airflow, these fans rotate at less than 1000 RPM, ensuring that the GPU operates at a mere 60°C under its 450W TGP. With the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090, there is no longer a need to compromise on power, performance, or acoustics.

Typically, most AIO liquid-cooled GPUs necessitate a small fan on the card itself to cool surface-mounted components, in addition to the fans mounted on the radiator to control GPU heat. However, the custom full-coverage coldplate featured in the ROG Matrix RTX 4090 eradicates the need for an auxiliary fan. This coldplate establishes contact with all heat-producing components on the PCB, enabling the radiator to independently cool the entire card. Furthermore, an enhanced and more potent pump delivers a larger amount of coolant compared to our previous designs, ensuring that the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 operates at peak efficiency at all times.
