Google Maps’ Latest AI Technology Assists in Locating Destinations
Google’s continued exploration into generative AI now includes Google Maps in its most recent release. However, there is a condition: these new features are currently only being introduced to a restricted set of “chosen local guides” in the United States.
Google has stated that the input and comments from the chosen set of local guides will be crucial in improving this feature before it is released to a wider audience, effectively making it similar to a closed beta at this point.
The app now includes advanced AI technology in maps, helping users discover areas that are customized to their likes and needs. Users can easily specify their search parameters using a common language, and Google’s language models will search through Maps’ enormous places database to locate suitable places for them.
As per one of the instances shown by Google, you can only enter a term like “locations with an old-fashioned atmosphere in San Francisco,” and in return, you will get a lot of information about surrounding businesses and establishments. This extensive data will include pictures, ratings, and reviews provided by the Maps community.
Review summaries support the findings’ organization and use of photo carousels. These summaries are created to provide insight into why a specific location would capture your attention, all based on your initial search. What’s especially handy is that, following your first question, you may smoothly continue the conversation with a follow-up query without having to repeat any information.
For example, in the previously given example, you may easily switch to a query like “What about lunch?” and get customized suggestions that match the desired atmosphere you first mentioned.
Google Bard is now capable of generating AI images at no cost.
You can choose to save all the suggested locations produced by this process and conveniently share them with your friends. The options are almost endless when it comes to the questions you can ask, which is what may make this a really valuable feature once it’s refined and made accessible to a larger group of people.
