WhatsApp’s New Feature: Search Users by Username
WhatsApp: Users may soon be able to look for other users on the web without using phone numbers.
WhatsApp is working on a new feature that would enable users to look for other individuals on the site using their usernames, thereby avoiding the necessity of sharing phone numbers. The upcoming functionality is presently being developed for WhatsApp Web and is anticipated to be released to mobile users in a future update.
The capability was previously offered to certain customers for testing on its Android application.
Once it is accessible, users will have the ability to search for other users using their login, phone number, or name.
A report by WABetainfo stated that in a future upgrade of the web client, users will have the ability to search for other users by putting their username into the search field.
“This search feature based on usernames will improve the user’s experience by removing the requirement of phone numbers. It will offer a convenient and privacy-focused way for users to find and communicate with others in the WhatsApp ecosystem,” the statement said.
Function accessible on Telegram
The search option based on usernames is comparable to a feature that is currently present on Telegram, a rival messaging application. This would greatly simplify the process of connecting with acquaintances without the need to disclose your phone number to them. This is a significant enhancement to the messaging software, which has faced criticism for mandating users to provide their personal contact details in order to establish connections with others.
Additional features of WhatsApp
WhatsApp is reportedly developing several additional capabilities, such as the ability for users to generate usernames using the WhatsApp Web application and the option to modify their WhatsApp username whenever they like. These additional functionalities are all included in WhatsApp’s attempt to enhance the app’s user experience and prioritise privacy.
