The phones receiving Xiaomi’s HyperOS first are those that are rolling it out globally.
Xiaomi unveiled a rebranding initiative in October for HyperOS, the long-running MIUI Android overlay. Along with the Xiaomi 14, the new HyperOS made its formal debut in the Chinese market, and it is now prepared for a worldwide release.
The business has now revealed its plans for HyperOS’s global release. Starting in the first quarter of 2024, the first phase will cover the following nine devices: Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12S, Xiaomi Pad 6, Poco F5, Xiaomi 13 Ultra, 13 Pro, 13, and 13T Pro, 13T.
Xiaomi has stated that although the rollout will be gradual, the update will be sent to compatible devices via OTA (over-the-air) updates.
HyperOS delivers more than simply a new look to smartphones, homes, and even cars. Its purpose is to improve their functionality. In comparison to MIUI, it has a faster kernel, a smaller footprint, and a quicker installation process.
It is important to note that Xiaomi phones with unlocked bootloaders, whether they are running MIUI 14 or HyperOS already, will not receive any HyperOS upgrades. HyperOS devices will also be more difficult to open.
At the moment, consumers have to apply via the Xiaomi Windows application and wait a week to be able to unlock the bootloader on their smartphone. In addition to waiting for this time, HyperOS users in China will also need to reach level 5 in the Xiaomi community forums. Xiaomi will formally disclose the process for unlocking under the new method for users who are not in China.
Users can get the newest HyperOS update right away by relocking the device.
Furthermore, Xiaomi is imposing a new limitation: three devices unlock a maximum annually. As of right now, Xiaomi only applies this policy in China, but it may eventually spread to other countries.
When asked about these rigorous guidelines, Xiaomi responds that they are necessary for security purposes, explaining that the limitations are a way to stop illegal access to its products.
