Samsung Keyboard App Battery Drain on One UI 5.1 – Confirmed by Samsung

Samsung has officially acknowledged that its Keyboard app was the culprit behind the battery drainage issues faced by users after installing the One UI 5.1 update on their eligible older devices. The company launched the Galaxy S23 series and the One UI 5.1 update simultaneously. However, many users complained that their batteries were depleting at an alarming rate.

In a post on the Samsung Thailand community page, a moderator confirmed that the excess battery consumption was caused by the Keyboard app. The issue was traced back to a specific process that dealt with stickers and emojis, as disclosed by the moderator.

Samsung promptly addressed the problem by releasing an update for the app. The latest version (v5.6.10.31) is available on the Galaxy Store since March 2. It is probable that your device may have already installed this update automatically. Nevertheless, if you want to manually update the app, follow the steps below:

Galaxy Store > Menu > Updates > Samsung Keyboard > Update Samsung Keyboard > Settings > About Samsung Keyboard > Tap Update button.

Even if you use an alternative keyboard app, it is highly recommended to update the Samsung Keyboard app to avoid any potential battery drainage issues.
