How to Access 5G on Your Huawei P60 and P60 Pro?

Chinese case manufacturer Soyealink is offering cases that can connect the Huawei P60 and P60 Pro to standalone or non-standalone 5G networks. U.S. export rules prevent foundries from sending cutting-edge chips to Huawei.

    5G Compatibility Issues with P60:

Qualcomm Snapdragon chips have been modified so they do not work with 5G signals, which is a major proviso for Huawei P60 and P60 Pro users. Soyealink’s case uses eSIM to work and supports sub-6GHz 5G networks.

The case supports both NSA and SA 5G networks. SA delivers faster data speeds, while NSA is built over a core 4G network as a way for carriers to offer 5G to subscribers more cheaply. Only T-Mobile has completed a 5G SA network in the U.S.

    The actual bands supported by the case include N1, N3, N28, N41, N77, N78, N79 for SA, and B3+N41, B3+N78, B3+N79, B1+N78, B1+N41, B39+N41, B39+N79, B41+N79, B5+N78, B8+N78 for NSA. The case uses an on-screen tool to manage 5G connectivity.

    eSIM Technology:

The case uses eSIM, which is a dedicated chip mounted on the phone’s motherboard that replaces a physical SIM card. An active eSIM is required through a wireless carrier. Installing the case on your P60 series handset will start the process of connecting your phone to a 5G network.

The P60 Pro has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 1220 x 2700 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It features the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC under the hood, although the 4nm chipset is modified to not support 5G connectivity (without the Soyealink case).

    Specifications of P60 Pro:

The P60 Pro is equipped with LPDDR5X RAM and buyers can choose between 256GB and 512GB of storage. On the back, there’s a 48MP wide camera with variable aperture (f/1.4-f/4.0), a 48MP telephoto camera with an optical zoom of 3.5x and 100x digital zoom, and a 13MP ultrawide camera.

A 13MP front-facing camera handles selfies and video chats. In China only, the P60 line will hook up with a satellite to allow messaging in areas with no cellular network. The device has an IP68 rating for dust and water protection and is available in four colors.

    P60 Pro Pricing and Availability:

The P60 Pro starts at CNY 6,988 for the 256GB model and CNY 7,988 for the 512GB model. HarmonyOS 3.1 is pre-installed. Huawei is expected to release an international version of the phones for the U.K. and other markets.

The Mate 60 flagship series is reportedly set to be released later this year. While the P series is focused on photography, the Mate line has the latest innovations, technology, and features.
