Apple Restricts Use of ChatGPT: Impact on Employee AI Tools

Apple prohibits the utilization of ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence tools by its employees, as per a report. The Wall Street Journal initially disclosed this development, indicating that Apple is currently working on its own language-generating AI technology. The company expresses concern that the utilization of programs such as OpenAI’s chatbot could result in the inadvertent disclosure of confidential data.

Furthermore, employees have been advised against using GitHub’s Copilot, a software code-writing automation tool owned by Microsoft that employs OpenAI Code.

Apple follows in the footsteps of other prominent tech giants in imposing restrictions on the use of ChatGPT by its staff. Samsung, for instance, prohibited its employees from employing ChatGPT after the inadvertent leakage of sensitive information to the platform. Similarly, financial institutions such as JPMorgan, Bank of America, and Citigroup have implemented ChatGPT bans to safeguard confidential data.

OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT, has also encountered challenges regarding privacy breaches. In March, a bug exposed users’ payment information as well as the initial message of new conversations. In response to these privacy concerns, OpenAI introduced a new feature in April that allows users to disable their chat history.
